WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give you boost in certain stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

The upgraded gear typically has a greater value for trade, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or has a high stat variation (like the eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the necessity to roll for a perfect model.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear by offering the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapons. However, the item used for the upgrade will be consumed forever and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enhancements.

The upgrader can be found in all major cities, and can be accessed anytime to upgrade your equipment. To keep your gear up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every couple of weeks.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the level of the item however, they are always less expensive than purchasing new gear. For example, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 levels will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapon, armor, tool and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased from Item Level Upgrade upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be used on any weapon, tool, or armor with the help of button, which will display an image of the item at its next upgrade level if the player has sufficient materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the item slot and current item level as well as the level of the weapon, which is more than gloves or bracers for instance. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item has been upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of the two currency types.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and numerous new features added. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific item level for a particular armor slot, upgrading additional items to the same level will cost less, even in the event that they belong to another set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is also reduced and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have a variety of choices when it comes to upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item upgrades level upgrades. Crests are an integral part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System that was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment of a particular rank, and every rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The easiest and most straightforward upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type or gear that is being upgraded.

Players can earn crests by completing content of the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons with any difficulty for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for endgame gear. These crests can then be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Utilizing these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, when an Best item upgrade is at the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest level possible on all their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant modification is that crests have one purpose, so it's important to use them properly. For instance, it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the Best item upgrader equipment available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan on making. This is especially true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, that will be able to take advantage of the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are full of high-quality equipment.
